Background

Prior to the formal conception of Chelsea Marketeers, Jeffrey Bernstein, president and founder, served as an authorized eBay Trading Assistant and Power Seller. His expertise in selling quality merchandise on eBay established Chelsea Marketeers as one of the premier purveyors of online merchandise—propelling Chelsea Marketeers to its current status as an independent online department store. With over 30,000 eBay transactions, Chelsea Marketeers consistently maintained a 100% positive feedback rating.

While Chelsea Marketeers will still remain part of eBay, the launch of the new Chelsea Marketeers’ site will allow our loyal customers to take advantage of the same great deals and service by buying directly on the new site, without the hassle of buying through eBay.

Who We Are

With a sales and marketing career that began in the entertainment industry, Jeffrey Bernstein’s impressive portfolio includes prominent positions as vice president of Warner Brothers Domestic Pay-TV, Cable & Network Features in New York City; director of pay-per-view at British Sky Broadcasting in London; and senior vice president at Request Television in Denver. He continues to work as an independent consultant in the media & telecommunications industry.

Bernstein also established, owned, and operated Bridges Restaurant and Cabaret, a mainstay in Bridgehampton, Long Island. He is the founder of Cable Positive, one of the cable and telecommunications industry’s foremost AIDS action organizations; a member of numerous trade and charitable organizations, and a frequent invited panelist and presenter at industry conferences. He has been recognized with numerous awards for his marketing, industry leadership and charitable endeavors.

Beginning as a hobby almost 10 years ago, Bernstein’s passion for selling on eBay quickly grew into a successful, thriving business. In 2005, he leased office space in Manhattan’s fashionable Chelsea district and in 2006 formerly founded Chelsea Marketeers.

Chelsea Marketeers is an authorized eBay Trading Assistant and continues to sell for others on both eBay and our new independent web site. The same is true for items that can be associated with a specific designer or retailer. Having a recognizable name connected with an item not only makes it easier for consumers to search for and find, but also increases the value of the item in the eyes of potential buyers. People tend to look for what they know, and the greater their familiarity is with an item, the greater comfort they’ll have purchasing it.

Assuming they are in good condition, collectibles do well, as do most antiques. Of course, it is important that you are able to authenticate these items. The more information you can provide about the product, the easier it will be for your buyers to recognize its value.

Things to Consider

Our fees are 35 percent of the gross sales price. In addition to our commission, this fee covers various credit card, software, and miscellaneous costs incurred in the sales process—fees that can often amount to as much as 15 or 20 percent of the sales price. We also absorb additional costs associated with the sales process, including Internet picture hosting subscriptions, packaging materials, etc. Please note however … if the items are exceptionally high-end in value, we may be willing to negotiate a lower commission.

For the purposes of being well informed when answering customer inquiries, as well as shipping promptly once the item sells, we prefer to have the items in our possession as soon as possible. To ensure and maintain our impeccable reputation, our policy dictates that we only sell items that we have inspected in person. To maintain the buyer's confidentiality as well as ensure quality standards, we prefer to ship all the items we sell directly.

Once an item has been purchased, we will supply you with a detailed accounting report. The net proceeds (after the fees) are usually paid a week later—allowing time for the funds to clear and ensuring that the customer isn't requesting a return or refund.

We guarantee all of the items we sell. So, if the item is not as represented, we will allow buyers to return it; and, not only do we refund the cost, but we also pay for the return shipping. If the item is as represented, we will allow returns within three days of receipt, at the customer's expense.
