Guillermo Silva - Mercado de Pajaros - Signed Intaglio Guillermo Silva signed relef color etching, Mercado de Pajaros, 1961. Pencil signed and dated lower right hand corner. Pencil titled lower left.
Framed. Image measures 11 3/4 by 9 7/8 inches. Overall size is 16 1/2 by 14 /12 inches. Images is clean and clear; there is some discoloration on edges of paper. Senior Silva uses the technique of Intaglio. This is done by engraving a copper plate with acid, this plate is then used to stamp the initial engraving into the paper. Each plate can be used for about 100 etchings before it is worn and is discarded. Senior Silva became bored with plain etchings and felt that they needed more life. So he turned to the Mixed-technique (combining two forms of art). In this case after he makes an etching, he goes back and hand paints each one with a water color and oils. He was the first artist to mix etching, water-color and oil all into one painting. Painter, sculptor, engraver, writer and Yoga teacher, Guillermo Silva was born on June 7th, 1921, in Bogota, Colombia.
