Signed Astrid Gate Swedish Blown Glass Pitcher

Stunningly beautiful, but highly functional, blown glass pitcher from Swedish Art Glass Maker Astrid Gate. Etch signed on the base A.G. 1995.

Stands 9 1/4 inches tall. Clear glass with blue stripes. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Pre-owned, but I believe unused.

Astrid Gate’s sense of glass is immediate. Being familiar with different techniques, she is able to create pleasing objects. Her unique products have great depth, and her motifs are rich in detail and diversity. Much of her work is carried out in the spirit of her grandfather – Simon Gate, who was one of the great historic figures in the art of glass. He contributed to the creation of the graal technique and Sweden’s international breakthrough in the genre in the 1920s.

Born in 1956 in Rösås in the Swedish glass district and an heir to a great tradition, devoting her talent to glass was a natural choice for Astrid. She has studied at Orrefors Glass School and work has been represented at the Swedish-American Museum in Chicago, USA, at the exhibition Glass Joy, at Växjö Glass Museum in Sweden and at Kalmar Castle, Sweden. The name Astrid Gate represents a steadily increasing value.
