In 1969 he moved to Havana in order to initiate study in fine art at San Alejandro Art School from where he emerged graduated in 1975.While he attend the art school at night, he worked as full time salaried fine art painter for Cuban Ministry of Public Health. There he painted landscapes and decorative subjects for different dependencies of that ministry. In 1980 he emigrated to the United States during the Mariel Boatlift.
Rather than settle in Miami, like many other fellow artists and writers, he moved to New York City where he felt he could better develop his art. Venegas is a prolific artist and his work has been exhibited at many art galleries and cultural places as Sareido Gallery, Soho, New York; Jadite Galleries, New York; Cuban Museum, Miami, Florida; Botello Gallerie, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Paterson Museum,Paterson, New Jersey; Watherholt Gallery, Washington DC, among others.
Venegas has been working on different subjects, but always the psychological factor is evident on his works. Sometimes his creations looks familiar to us and very concerned to actual social matter, and sometimes his imagination fly away and escape from our understanding.
