Josef Pierre Nuyttens _ Signed Original Watercolor Joseph Pierre Nuyttens (1885-1960) signed original watercolor on board. Entitled "There's Something About the Islands." Signed lower left. Framed. Measures 24 by 18 inches. With frame it measures 29 inches by 22.5 inches. Very good condition with some wear to the frame.
Josef Pierre Nuyttens 'Josef Nuyttens': A twentieth century painter and etcher, Josef Pierre Nuyttens studied art in his native Belgium at the Antwerp Royal Academy. He then went to Paris to complete his education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Nuyttens began to exhibit his paintings in both Antwerp and Brussels in 1905. By the end of the First World War (1918) he had emerged as one of Belgium's leading artists and received the bronze medal from the Queen of Belgium as well as the Chevalier of the Order of Leopold II. <> Josef Pierre Nuyttens moved to the United States around 1925. He first settled in New York but by 1934 he had made Chicago his permanent home. In America, Nuyttens became well known for his landscapes, cityscapes, figure studies and animal depictions. He was a full member of the Alumni Art Institute of Chicago. Today, examples of Josef Nuyttens's etchings and paintings are included in such diverse collections as the Art Institute of Chicago, the White House, Washington, DC, and the Royal Palace, Brussels, Belgium. |
